Knee

Your knee joint is one of the largest and most complex joints in the body. The knee, also known as the tibiofemoral joint, is a synovial hinge joint formed between three bones: the femur, tibia, and patella. The knee joins the thigh bone (femur) to the shin bone (tibia). The smaller bone that runs alongside the tibia (fibula) and the kneecap (patella) is the other bones that make the knee joint. Movements at the knee joint help in everyday activities, including walking, running, sitting and standing.

WHO NEEDS TOTAL KNEE REPLACEMENT

  • Patients unable to stand/walk for 10-15 minutes

Hip

The hip joint is a type of ball and socket joint. The ball is formed by the head of the thigh bone (femur) and the socket is formed by part of the pelvis (acetabulum). Usually the surfaces of the bones are covered with a smooth coating (articular cartilage). This allows smooth, pain free movement in all directions. When people have problems with their hip, the hip can be painful, stiff and have trouble moving normally. Hip replacement is a treatment that can reduce hip pain and improve the way the hip moves.

Total Hip Replacement

  • Socket is replaced by ceramic or metal cup
  • Plastic or Ceramic liner is inserted between the cup and the ball to reduce wear
